Asteffiel is entirely absent from the story events leading up to Heart of Thorns. He was directly affected by Living World Season 2.
Living World Season 2

• Asteffiel and Viliandre wake after the Pale Tree is attacked by the shadow of the dragon
• Asteffiel makes friends with Saffron, and bad friends in the Nightmare Court
• Asteffiel and Saffron return to the Grove, and try to figure out how not to Nightmare

Heart of Thorns

• Asteffiel finds Viliandre again
• Asteffiel and Vi follow Ana and Rurik into the Jungle
• Asteffiel and Vi stay behind in Tarir (Skipping events from Predator's Path and rejoining during Sign Cutting), Asteffiel learns Reaper

Living World Season 3

• Asteffiel joins Ana in her travels full time, from Rata Novus to Ember Bay
• Asteffiel was present for the hatching of Aurene
• Asteffiel stayed "home" and worked on Mawdrey rather than go to help Aurene grow, or to the shiverpeaks to help Braham.
• Asteffiel goes with Rurik to aid Taimi at Rata Novus
• Asteffiel does not become part of shining blade, or take part in Siren's Landing cleansing of Orr

Path of Fire

• Asteffiel, Vi, and the Norn Trio stay to help villagers while Rurik and Ana chase the Herald.
• In Amnoon, Asteffiel and Vi aid the refugees for information.
• Searching for clues in the desert, Asteffiel found Choya instead.
• Asteffiel, Rurik, Ana and friends were all killed by Balthazar and ended up in the realm of the lost

LivingWorld Season 4

• Asteffiel was arrested alongside Ana and Rurik.
• Asteffiel was with Ana in Central Tyria while Rurik went with others to deal with the Inquest base.
• Joko died and Asteffiel helped claim the guild hall for Blade Coalition
• Asteffiel stayed in the tunnel caused by the attack that killed Aurene.

Icebrood Saga

• Asteffiel is a member of Ana and Rurik's guild, and not strongly connected to Dragon's Watch. He leaves the area shortly after Prologue.
